"Where You See Yourself" follows determined Minnesotan Effie, a wheelchair user, navigating her senior year of high school and college admissions. This is an eye-opening book featuring much-needed disability representation, and I loved the Midwestern nods -- "save big money at Menards," anyone? Folks still trying to figure out "where they can see themselves" as they venture out into the big world will absolutely relate to Effie; anyone unfamiliar with the concept of "spoons" can absolutely take a lesson from Effie's everyday challenges and struggles. SUCH a great perspective!

I love Jamie and I was excited to hear about this book, especially after she guest-hosted the BtB episode on Hot Dog King George Shea. It didn't disappoint! If you're a fan of Jamie or BtB/Robert Evans (yes, he and his compound are present!), you'll like this; if you're unfamiliar with her, it might not be as enjoyable. Her humor is irreverent and off-the-wall -- totally my vibe, but based on the blank looks I received from my husband upon reading sections out loud to him while snort-laughing, I understand it's not necessarily for everyone. Also, if you aren't leftist, then....well, I guess you're going to be upset at a lot of the opinions she drops about organized labor, the prison-industrial complex, factory farming, etc. etc. But for me, I loved all the pieces of the social puzzle she linked for us and the more-complete picture of US history as re: our most delicious tube meat.

My mind is still so blown and my heart so full from Chef's Choice that I'm STILL struggling to put it into words! (Can you use that as the blurb?!)
This is a book that eats like a meal.
Appetizers: cute and flirty; an easy story to jump into (and charcuterie boards abound!)
Salad: refreshingly original characters and crisp dialogue
Main course: an enriching story with heart that warms you down to your toes -- and some spice to keep you ON your toes (but the only *cheese* comes from actual dairy products)
Dessert: and it's just so darn SWEET! Trans joy is my new favorite dessert!How does a funny, flirty, spicy romcom still manage to educate me (a cisgender woman) about varied trans experiences while still feeling wholly authentic?! I learned so much, I laughed so much, I LOVED Luna and JP *so much*!!! TJ Alexander is now an auto-buy for me! (Caution: make sure your cheese drawer is stocked BEFORE you start this book.)
